The OpenCost project has had a fruitful year in terms of releases, our wonderful mentees and contributors, and fun gatherings at KubeCons.

This project was initiated as part of the LFX Fall 2025 mentorship program at OpenCost and development is ongoing.

OpenCost is evolving. Today, we're excited to introduce KubeModel, the foundation of OpenCost's Data Model 2.0, designed to bring precision, efficiency, and reliability to Kubernetes cost tracking.

We're excited to announce that OpenCost now includes a built-in Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that enables AI agents to directly access and analyze your Kubernetes cost data. This groundbreaking integration brings intelligent automation to cost optimization, making it easier than ever to understand, predict, and optimize your cloud spending.
