This project was initiated as part of the LFX Fall 2025 mentorship program at OpenCost and development is ongoing.
OpenCost is evolving. As Kubernetes environments grow in complexity with pods being recreated, names being reused, and resources constantly shifting, the need for a more robust, scalable data model has become clear. Today, we're excited to introduce KubeModel, the foundation of OpenCost's Data Model 2.0, designed to bring precision, efficiency, and reliability to Kubernetes cost tracking.

The future of Kubernetes cost management is here, and it's powered by AI. We're excited to announce that OpenCost now includes a built-in Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that enables AI agents to directly access and analyze your Kubernetes cost data. This groundbreaking integration brings intelligent automation to cost optimization, making it easier than ever to understand, predict, and optimize your cloud spending.
Note: This is available as of OpenCost v1.118.
